Operation Hailstone - 17 Feb 1944

To ensure superiority for the upcoming invasion of Eniwetok Admiral Spruance ordered an attack on the Japanese base at Truk. Over 250 Japanese aircraft, 16 warships and 50 merchant ships are destroyed in the US naval air and surface attack.
