HMS Illustrius attacked - 10 Jan 1941
While escorting a convoy, HMS Illustrious comes under Stuka attack 60 miles west of Malta. She is hit by 8 bombs and suffers extensive damage. While she is being repaired , Allied ability to prevent the German landings in North Africa is hampered.

 | 2009-10-22 07:47:30 PM | Not sure about the location for this attack. I have some conflicting reports. One that the attacked occurred nw of Pantaleria, another that it was in 37.8, 16.9 and my position based on the Naval-History.Net article describing the attack 60 miles west of Malta. |
