The Mote in God's Eye - Larry Niven & Jerry Pournelle
Between this and Lucifier's Hammer, I much preferred the later. I still enjoyed this novel, the naval custom stuff particularly, some of which was slightly reminiscent of Jack Aubrey's navy.

Lucifer's Hammer - Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle
Loved it. First published in 1977 I thought this novel would have dated a little. Not at all. Off to find more Niven/Pournelle goodness with A Mote in God's Eye which Robert A. Heinlein describes as possibly the best science fiction novel he ever read. Little bit excited.

I enjoyed large parts of this book, but I am a little relieved it is over.
